For Bindu Thankam Kalyani, a Dalit activist and teacher at the Medical College Campus Higher Secondary School in Kozhikode, the ‘repercussions’ of her attempted visit to the Sabarimala Temple, was far beyond what she could have imagined.

She was almost assaulted by a frenzy mob in Erumely, enroute to the hill shrine on Monday.

A video of the incident which is making rounds in social media showed Bindu and her two friends, accompanied by nearly half a dozen police officers running into a police van after the mob blocked their way.
