Mack Hansen: Connacht star shares graphic pic of nasty gash after URC quarter-final victory

Mack Hansen has shared a picture of the nasty injury he sustained in Connacht’s 15-10 victory over Ulster in the United Rugby Championship (URC) quarter-final.

The 25-year-old left the pitch temporarily after sustaining the injury while attempting to tackle opposition wing Robert Baloucoune in the 25th minute.

He returned to the pitch in the second half with his head heavily bandaged.

Nasty gash

The winger did not require a HIA and is set to be available for the URC semi-final clash with the Stormers in Cape Town.

However, he will have a nasty scar for the encounter as he shared the extent of his injury on Instagram.

He was in good spirits with the image accompanied by the caption ‘Model career on hold.’

The injury did not impact Hansen’s performance, with the winger shining in the victory for Connacht.

Despite all odds, he produced this superb offload to keep the ball in play.

He gained more metres (.55) than any other Connacht player in the clash.

It was another dynamic display by the winger, who regularly got his hands on the ball. He made 10 carries, the joint-most for a Connacht backline player, and made three passes and beat four defenders.

He also won a crucial turnover on the hour mark with Ulster threatening the line.

Wasteful

Meanwhile, captain Jack Carty hailed Connacht’s grit to upset Ulster in the URC.

“There were various points, especially at half-time, where we said the first to break was the team who were going to lose it,” Carty said.

“I think that’s what they did. We kept doing what we needed to do in terms of playing in the right areas.

“We were massively, massively wasteful and I think that’s what the excitement part is. That’s where the growth is.

“If we take those opportunities next week, we will be closer to a final. I don’t think many people gave us a chance, but we were confident coming up.”
