The 42-year-old’s last match as Monaco boss was Friday’s 2-0 victory over Cercle Brugge. This lunchtime, he has been sacked, after being called into a meeting with the board just minutes ago. A new shock turn of events on the Principality, after the surprise return of Leonardo Jardim.
This decision has been in the Monegasque air for several weeks – the ASM board have persisted with their desire to install a new DNA in the club, with the arrival of Paul Mitchell as Sporting Director being the first move in that direction, and the firing of Moreno the second.
The ASM board backed this decision because they felt that Moreno’s promise of ambitious possession-based football was rarely seen during his 12 matches in charge (5 victories, 3 draws & 4 defeats). The outlet claims that Moreno is paying for his lack of experience of marshalling a squad. The board was concerned about his apparent lack of man-management skills and moved to make the change.
The decision has been made for several days and was signed off on by owner Dimitri Rybolovlev, Oleg Petrov and Paul Mitchell.
