Renato Sanches ruled out of PSG’s encounter against Benfica

Renato Sanches had to be withdrawn 16 minutes after returning to the field from a right groin injury as a second-half substitute in Paris Saint-Germain‘s 2-1 win over OGC Nice on Saturday.

As reported by L’Équipe, the Portuguese midfielder underwent necessary examinations on Sunday. And the results have hinted at nothing serious regarding the injury.

Nevertheless, PSG boss Christophe Galtier will not take any risk with the former Bayern Munich midfielder in their next game, ruling him out of PSG’s Champions League tie against Benfica.

In the game against Nice at the weekend, Sanches replaced Fabián Ruiz in the 72nd minute of the game. But with the 25-year-old unable to continue, Galtier took him off the field as soon as possible. After the game, the PSG manager was quoted as saying:

“When he slipped, he felt a little strain. He was coming back from an injury and he preferred to leave. We don’t know yet how serious the injury is.”

The Ligue 1 champions make the trip to Portugal to lock horns with Benfica on Wednesday. Since moving to the French capital, Sanches has played 189 minutes of league football across six appearances in all competitions.
