As reported by L’Équipe, recent reports that Kylian Mbappé is looking to leave PSG, possibly as soon as January, remain accurate.

The 23-year-old, who finished sixth for the latest Ballon d’Or, awarded to Karim Benzema last night, stated at the weekend that “I’ve never asked for a departure in January. That’s completely false.” This, the sports daily say, is true, Mbappé has never asked to leave Paris directly but those around him say that his desire to leave the club, initially reported in Spain, is real, even if it hasn’t formally been expressed as yet.

Sporting director Luis Campos also stated before the Champions League game with Benfica earlier this month: “I work with Kylian Mbappé every day. He’s never asked me to leave in January… he’s never asked the president to leave in January either. That means the report is not a player statement. It’s information.”

As the paper points out, Mbappé’s statements to the press at the weekend only covered whether he had asked to leave, not if he wanted to as frustrations over the situation, both from the club and its Qatari owners, rise despite attempts to calm the situation.
