It has been a whirlwind of a year for 37-year-old Daniel Bryan, who kicked off 2018 as an on-screen authority figure under the assumption that he would never wrestle a single match in a WWE ring ever again.
Fast-forward a few months and the leader of the “YES Movement” has been fully cleared to return to action, and in fact will be teaming up with Kane tonight at WWE Extreme Rules to battle for the Smackdown Tag Team Championships. Things are looking up for the former world champion and WrestleMania headliner, but a big question has been looming as the expiration date on his contract draws near.
According to Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful.com, Bryan has officially signed a brand new two-year deal with WWE and will be staying with the company, at least for the foreseeable future.
Negotiations have been back and forth for several months now, with several sources reporting that one major area of contention has been Bryan fighting to have more of a say in the direction of his character and in picking his matches. Apparently the two sides were able to reach some sort of deal, but it’s worth noting the newly re-signed superstar will not have creative control.
In an interview with Business Times earlier this week, he stated “The wrestling world is an interesting world right now, but I love working with WWE and my wife is a part of WWE, so there’s a good chance I’ll re-sign.”
