Konnor & Victor, The Ascension Released from WWE

WWE has officially announced the releases of Ryan Parmeter and Eric Thompson, better known to fans as Konnor and Victor of The Ascension, respectively.

Konnor, 39, actually had his first two-year run in WWE developmental back in 2005, signing a contract before being moved to Deep South Wrestling to train. After taking some time off from the business he returned in 2010 and wrestled in Florida Championship Wrestling, and was a member of the fourth season of the NXT reality series.

The Ascension gimmick was actually created in FCW, and originally featured Konnor as a part of a stable with Tito Colon (later Epico), Kenneth Cameron (later Bram), Ricardo Rodriguez and Raquel Diaz (Shaul Guerrero).

Viktor, also 39, got his start in the Hart Dungeon in 1999. He made his debut in FCW in 2011 and was very successful as a part of the developmental promotion, defeating Seth Rollins and Bo Dallas on separate occasions to become a two-time FCW Heavyweight Champion.

The Ascension later arrived in NXT after the black-and-yellow brand was reestablished as its own developmental entity, but with a stripped down version that only featured Konnor and Cameron. When the later was released from the company, Viktor was repackaged and the duo WWE fans are familiar with today was born.

The two went on to win the NXT Tag Team Championships, holding them for nearly a full year (WWE recognizes this reign as 343 days but between TV tapings it was 364 days).

In February 2014 at NXT Arrival, the first ever live show streamed on the WWE Network and the precursor to the NXT Takeover concept, The Ascension helped make history when they defeated returning legends Scotty 2 Hotty and Grandmaster Sexay to retain the titles.
