A backstage interview with Styles aired on SmackDown tonight. Styles said he embarrassed Drew Gulak in their title match last week and no one is worthy of stepping into the ring with him. Styles said Riddle’s win against him was a fluke and vowed to beat him next week.
Riddle did an in-ring interview on SmackDown last week before being interrupted by Baron Corbin. Riddle wanted to face Corbin then, but Corbin said Riddle doesn’t just get to walk in here and be handed an opportunity against him. Riddle instead defeated John Morrison.
Styles won the Intercontinental title by defeating Daniel Bryan in a tournament final on the June 12 episode of SmackDown. Styles’ match against Gulak last week was his first defense of the championship.
Riddle posted a video earlier this week denying the sexual assault allegation made against him by Candy Cartwright. Riddle did admit to having an affair with Cartwright.
