ASHLAND, Ore. – James Howey has become the first athlete in the 38-year history of J Robinson Wrestling Camps to graduate from all four intensive camps in one summer—66 consecutive days of wrestling training and intense physical conditioning. He completed and graduated from the Iowa 10-Day Intensive Camp, the Pennsylvania 14-Day Intensive Camp, the Minnesota 28-Day Intensive Camp, and the Oregon 14-Day Intensive Camp. An incoming senior hailing from Pomona, CA, Howey put this quest in motion in the spring of 2014 following a life transformation due to his dedication to the sport of wrestling.

Led by three-time NCAA National Champion Coach J Robinson, since 1978 J Robinson Intensive Camps have built a reputation as the hardest, most intense wrestling camps in the world. Robinson’s Intensive Camps teach wrestling technique, physical conditioning, and mental toughness in an environment of nonstop intensity that ultimately seeks to instill the core life skills of the J7—Discipline, Dedication, Sacrifice, Hard Work, Responsibility, Accountability, and Service.

Howey has earned his spot at the highest level of J Robinson camp athletes, having exemplified those seven values in each of his 66 days at J Robinson Intensive Camps. “[I’m doing this] because I want to be the best,” said Howey. “I want to be extraordinary. When I return from camp I will hopefully be able to take the state championship. This is my chance to be great, to rise to new heights.”

Intensive Camps are designed to test the physical and mental limits of each camper, but the 66-Day Challenge is something that requires a new level of commitment. “J Robinson Intensive Camps teaches these young athletes a new meaning of the words hard work,” said Robinson. “Every day, we prepare them for lifelong success on and off the mat by putting them in a concentrated and structured environment and constantly requiring them to do more. You can always do more—we teach them that by actually making them do it. James’ quest takes the commitment and determination that’s required to graduate from even one intensive camp and takes it to a new level.”

Since 1978, J Robinson Intensive Camps (JRIC) has represented the standard of excellence in athletic training. Founded by J Robinson, current University of Minnesota Head Wrestling Coach, JRIC is the original intensive wrestling camp leader, having trained over 30,000 young adults in athletic and life skills. The core philosophy of JRIC resides in the J7: Discipline, Dedication, Sacrifice, Hard Work, Responsibility, Accountability, and Service.
