'Daddy, There's The Guy!' 10-Year-Old Spots Accused Burglar

TAMPA, FL — The sharp eyes of a 10-year-old boy has led to the arrest of a man on felony burglary charges.

On Nov. 17, Tampa resident Ross Glass and his three children returned to their home in the 2100 block of West Sewaha Street in Forest Hills after having breakfast at Glass’ mother’s house.

As soon as he walked in, Glass knew something wasn’t right. There were items out of place. He checked his home’s security footage and, to his surprise, saw a stranger entering his home through a back door and then rifling through his belongings, stealing a Glock 26 9 mm gun, a drone and an Apple laptop computer before leaving.

He promptly called Tampa Police, which distributed a still photo of the burglar to the media and posted it on the department’s Facebook page, offering a $3,000 award through Crime Stoppers.

Glass also shared the video on his own Facebook page and was disappointed when no one came forward with the burglar’s identity.

Then, in what Glass described as an “incredible coincidence,” Glass and his children were at the Winn-Dixie grocery store on Sunday night when his 10-year-old son tugged on his shirt.

“My oldest son Caleb pulls on my shirt and goes, ‘Daddy, there’s the guy!'” Glass said.

Glass looked over at the man, later identified as 42-year-old Eric Rodriguez-Sanchez of Tampa, and was shocked to recognize the man on his home

“I did not think anything of it at first but as soon as I looked up and saw this individual, I realized that it was him,” said Glass. “I immediately called the police and waited outside so the individual was not able to leave. He never recognized me.”

When Rodriguez-Sanchez walked out of the grocery store, he was immediately surrounded by police.

“There are no words to describe the last few days dealing with the burglary of my home and the overwhelming support of the community,” said Glass. “Now I hope I can get some of my things back.”

Sanchez was charged with third-degree grand theft, armed burglary of a dwelling and possession of a firearm by a felon.

He’s being held in the Hillsborough County Jail on a $59,500 bond.
