Son Sought In Deaths Of Ex-NFL Player, Wife In Minnesota

TODD COUNTY, MN — Authorities in rural Minnesota are searching for a suspect after a former NFL player and his wife were found dead at their Long Prairie home. The Todd County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting a body just after 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.

A friend called police after arriving at the home of Barry Bennett, who had not returned phone calls or texts since Tuesday.

Deputies arrived on the scene and found two adults who had died under suspicious circumstances, according to police. The bodies were identified as Barry Bennett, 63, and Carol Bennett, also 63.

The Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office will rule on the case and manner of the couple’s death.

Investigators identified the suspect as Dylan John Bennett, 22. He is the couple’s son, the New York Post reports.

He is believed to be driving a 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe blue in color bearing Minnesota license plate number “BCK 487.”

Barry Bennett played football at Concordia College in Saint Paul. He went on to play defensive line for the New Orleans Saints from 1978 to 1981 and the New York Jets from 1982 to 1988.

He also played for the Minnesota Vikings in 1988.

The Todd County Sheriff’s Office is being assisted in its investigation by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, the FBI, and the Central Minnesota Violent Offender Task Force.
