SMS Service Restored In Kashmir, Indore Is The Cleanest City In India And Other Top News

Five months after the services were cut off, Kashmiris can now start sending SMS, once again, from the new year. The mobile messaging services were restored from Tuesday midnight, in the newly formed Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, nearly five months since its suspension. 

The government has also decided to restore the broadband internet services in all government-run hospitals in the valley. Read more 

Indore Is The Cleanest City In India, For The Fourth Year In A Row, According To The Swachhta Survey 

Indore in Madhya Pradesh has emerged as the cleanest city in India for the fourth time in a row. According to the Swachhta survey results announced on Tuesday, Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh was ranked second in the first-quarter results (April to June), while Rajkot in Gujarat grabbed the second spot in second-quarter results (July-September).

New Year And New Price Hike, Be Ready To Shell Out A Little More For Train Tickets As Railways Hike Basic Fares 

The railways have announced a fare hike across its network, excluding suburban trains. The new prices will be effective from January 1, 2020, according to an order issued on Tuesday.

Delhi Welcomes The New Year With A ‘Severe’ Air Quality 

On Wednesday, the first day of the new year 2020, Delhi woke up to ‘severe’ air quality. 

The overall air quality in Delhi stood at 462, according to data provided by the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC). Mathura Road in Delhi recorded the worst air quality on Wednesday with an AQI of 528. Read more 

Germany Begins New Year After Shutting Down Nuclear Power Plants 

Operators began shutting down the Philippsburg nuclear power plant in southern Germany on Tuesday, as the country puts into motion its plan to begin decommissioning all 17 of its atomic energy facilities by the end of 2022. 

After 35 years on the grid, Block 2 of the Philippsburg station was fully turned off. Neckarwestheim 2, the other remaining nuclear plant in the southwestern state of Baden-Württemberg, is not set to be turned off until the end of the nuclear phase-out plan. Read more
