NASA’s Voyager 2 probe is currently on a journey toward interstellar space. The spacecraft, launched in 1977, is approaching the edge of the solar system, according to a NASA statement. Voyager 2 is little less than 17.7 billion km away from Earth — or more than 118 times the distance from earth to the sun.

Voyager scientists have been watching for the spacecraft to reach the outer boundary of the heliosphere, known as the heliopause.
