Celebratory firing is leading to more wailing and weeping than happiness. Earlier this month, in an unfortunate incident a father killed his eight-year-old son during New Year celebratory firing.

Hindustan Times reported that a 19-year-old woman was accidentally shot in her leg during a celebratory firing at her wedding in east Delhi’s Shakarpur on Thursday. She was immediately taken to the hospital for treatment where she underwent surgery for four hours.

Celebratory firing claimed lives of 31 people in the last three years in Uttar Pradesh alone, TOI reported. The victims included 12 minors and four women. During the same period, almost 32 people were injured in 55 celebratory firing incidents.
