Sri Lanka’s Catholic Community Is Living In Fear Of ISIS Attack, Holds Sunday Mass Through TV

Weeks after serial blasts, which killed more than 250 people in Sri Lanka, fear still grips the island nation as the catholic churches aren’t observing Sunday mass in churches. According to reports, the mass is still being televised to avoid any attack.

Father Edmund Tillakaratne said the public masses are avoided in order to avoid in possibility of the attack as the fear of attack is still looms large. But the service is conducted by Cardinal Marcolm Ranjith and will be broadcast on national television.

The police said that search operations over weekends have been increased as the re-opening of over 10,000 public schools have been planned by the government. A total of 257 people were killed in the attacks on three churches and three luxury hotels on Easter Sunday on April 21.
