For this summer sportswear brand Nike presents Cadência, a new Brazilian documentary by Bantam Films. The film gives an insight to the city’s communities and the unifying effect of sport. The movie will be on show from 25th March – 25th April at Rich Mix cinema in East London.
Cadência is a picture of Rio’s sport and culture, the film explores the country’s ‘cadence’, its rhythm, and the true spirit of Brazil. It sets out to articulate the ambiguous essence of Rio de Janeiro’s symbolic identity through its people, passions and traditions. Exploring the underground phenomena of traditional kite culture, the masquerade of Clovis and of course, football. The film features commentary from academics, artists, and footballers.
“Articulate the ambiguous essence of symbolic identity. The real inspiration for Cadência was to be able to address aspects of Brazilian culture that I had come across after living in Rio for nearly three years. I feel that the generosity, attention and care the Brazilian people have shown me is reflected in the work I produce about their lives and their cultures,” says Director Daren Bartlett, March 2010
