Google Just Added A Temple Emoji To Android 10, And Indian Twitter Couldn’t Be Happier

Earlier this year Unicode.org, the group that develops and promotes the Unicode Standard, released a number of emoji, including a Hindu temple and sari. Now, Google has introduced those emoji into the just-released Android 10 update.

All told, there are 65 new emoji in Android 10, but the ones you might be most interested are those for a temple, sari, autorickshaw, and diya.

All of these are specifically because Indian users have been requesting them of course. And it seems social media users were really happy about being included.

Don’t Miss

Additionally, some of the new emoji were also aimed at those living with disabilities. These include motorized and manual wheelchairs, probing canes, sign language, and seeing-eye dogs.

Google also went ahead and added gender options for emojis representing professions, or at least ones without a specified gender it says. They also added female versions to other action emoji like “getting a haircut”, and skin tone variations to a number of other icons.
