Indian Women’s Hockey Give Tough Fight To Australia In Olympic Test Event, Match Drawn 2-2

Indian women’s hockey team played an entertaining 2-2 draw against Australia in the round-robin league match of the Olympic Test Event on Sunday.

The Nabhvarna, as India women’s hockey team is called, came back from behind twice, with Vandana Katariya (36th) and Gurjit Kaur (59th) scoring for India to cancel out strikes from Kaitlin Nobbs (14th) and Grace Stewart (43rd) in their second match of the tournament.

World number 10 India began the match aggressively, matching Australia’s attacking hockey with their own brand which saw both teams earn penalty corners. However, neither side managed to convert.

But that soon changed in 14th minute as Australia took the lead, which was soon leveled when Vandana Katariya finished of a great attacking move. Australia though took the lead again through Grace Stewart, but it only lasted 16 minutes as Gurjit Kaur converted the penalty corner to make the game even. 

The match ended in a 2-2 draw. India had earlier beaten hosts Japan 2-1 in first match of the tournament.
