16 Years Ago, This Indian Bought A Plot On The Moon For Just Rs 9500, Feel You Should’ve Too?

We Indians, some of us, think door ka. That is why, Rajeev V. Bagdi had purchased a plot on the moon for a mere $140 (Approx Rs 9,500) in 2003. He bought the 5 acre plot 16 years ago and now believes that the successful launch of India’s lunar mission Chandrayaan-2 is a hope that landing on the moon is possible in his lifetime.

Bagdi had bought the plot from New York-based Lunar Society International and he told IANS, “As an Indian I feel proud over the successful launch of Chandrayaan-2. It will bring lot of goodness to the mankind.”

But here is the thing – you would think that the plot on moon – which is well, not even on earth – would cost a fortune, but Bagdi got it years ago, for what seems like a very negligible amount to pay for a land on a celestial body.

Moon tourism and even Mars tourism are things that we have, so far, just been hearing about. However, the fact is, very real attempts are being made to make that a reality. Bagdi hopes that moon tourism will begin by 2030. “When I purchased the plot, I thought at least my coming generation will benefit from it, but now I am hopeful that I will be able to go to the moon with my family,” he said.

Don’t Miss

Bagdi owns an ayurvedic store, but since childhood he had been fascinated by the moon. “I don’t know why I was so inquisitive about the moon. While surfing the Internet, I came across an article on moon land selling. I studied it, did my research and took a decision to buy the plot.”

He has all his official documents with him which were issued by the Lunar Republic. The deed which was registered by the Lunar Registry in New York on July 27, 2003 reads, ‘Rajeev Bagdi is the true and legal owner of the property located at Mare Imbrium (Sea of Rains) 32.8 degree north latitude, 15.6 degree west longitude track-30′.

Explaining the deed he said, “I have claim on moon from that society. If their exploration becomes successful, if they succeed in making human tourism on moon a reality and take control of this land parcel, they will honour the deed as per the map given.”

Talking about the contract he said, “There is nothing illegal. It is a privately funded exploration. It may kick-in or it may fail. I had invested in a project which can help the mankind over a time. At least the coming generations should feel that our forefathers acted with foresightedness.”

He pointed out that a number of people have bought a plot on the moon. He also said, “Today, a member of almost every Indian family is in the US. The same thing may also happen with moon 20 years down the line.”

Well this just makes me feel that I should have bought a plot too when it was cheap, you feel earthed yet?
