This City In Holland Covers Roofs Of Hundreds Of Bus Stops With Greenery As A Gift To Honeybees

In Utrecht, a city in Netherlands, plants have covered the roofs of hundreds of bus stops and this is the gift to the honeybee by the city. Roofs of the total of 316 bus stops have been covered in greenery in the city of Utrecht.

Adding to the city biodiversity such as honey bees and bumblebees, these shelters also capture fine dust and store rainwater, a report in The Independent said.

The bamboo benches and energy-efficient LED lights add to the beauty of the roofs and the workers who move around in electric vehicles look after these roofs.

This is just one of the number of measures taken by Utrecht in order to improve the air quality and the city also aims to introduce 55 new electric buses by the end of the year and  the city aims to have “completely clean public transport” by 2028.

The Dutch windmills will power these buses. Utrecht also allows its residents to apply for funding in order to transform the roofs of their homes into the green roofs.
