Anthony Martial’s agent Philippe Lamboley spoke to RMC following comments made by Arsène Wenger that the young French striker was a left-sided player predominately and that Arsenal did not need him because of the amount of wingers that they already had at their disposal.
“Anthony is a true modern centre forward, who can play on either side. I was surprised by Arsène Wenger’s analysis, who has apparently been following him since he was a teenager. I do not agree with him because Anthony, he scored 25-30 goals in Lyon’s youth academy playing as a centre-forward and never played on the wings. When he peels off and draws away, it is precisely in order to gain speed and to unstick central defenders. If the analysis that Arsène Wenger made was to justify the fact that he did not sign Anthony, well then I accept his words and he is therefore a wide player. But in football, there are those who follow players and those who buy them.”
