For Indian fans, cricket is a high-energy experience, chock-full with passion and love. With the cricket season going on, the “josh” has hit a new high – and cricket fever – a legit phenomenon has taken over! Fans across the world are rooting for India’s win, which’ll make them third time champions!
This time around, the country saw fan-support emerging in ways that are evolved and entertaining! While the viral fan anthem- ‘Chakravyuh Mein SockThem’ set the ball rolling, SockThem also garnered raging support with the #SockThem Challenge, wherein fans add a twist of their own to the hook-step of this anthem, and have flooded the social media with their videos.
For starters, what’s ‘SockThem’?
If you aren’t already aware, ‘Chakravyuh Mein SockThem’ is the new-age cricket anthem from PUMA that has united the cricket fans in an unimaginable manner. It is inspired by Kohli’s famous gesture during the last series in Australia, when he endured a sledging home crowd to score a century and then pointed his bat and said, “I let my bat do the talking.” SockThem essentially means to silence the critics, and implies that the performance on the field will do the talking.
In addition to the public’s blue-eyed star – Virat Kohli, the anthem video features other PUMA ambassadors including Olympic boxer and six-time world champion, Mary Kom, cricketer Sushma Verma and others doing the ‘blabber gesture’ as they groove to the anthem and express their support. What’s more? PUMA brought Divine on board– India’s most celebrated hip-hop icon, who composed and sung this anthem.
Virender Sehwag, our very own “Viru”, added a twist to the ongoing wave of excitement with the ‘SockThem With Sehwag’ videos that’ll leave you in splits!
‘SockThem With Sehwag’ – Wit &Humour Redefined!
Sehwag took to twitter to rally fan support for Virat and the team, and did it in the most befitting way possible.
He posted a series of videos titled ‘SockThem With Sehwag’ on Twitter – one’s that capture his video chat banters with famous cricketers like Jonty Rhodes and Adam Gilchrist. These videos revolve around “socking” the opponents, all in light humour of course! From taking a dig at the Jonty Rhodes and South African cricket team to an amusing cross-talk with Adam Gilchrist, Sehwag is unapologetic and humorous in these videos.
Cricket has always seen passionate and emotional support across the country, and this time around, it’s taking paths and turns like never before. We were just soaking in the support and love that resonated with the SockThem Anthem, when Sehwag hit a sixer across social media and gave our love for cricket a whole new dimension.
From the SockThem anthem painting the social media red with public support to Sehwag’s ingenious take on the SockThem that has taken twitter by storm, one thing we know is that, this is no ordinary cricket season!
For now, we can’t help but wonder, which cricketer will be next on ‘#SockThem With Sehwag’.
