Chiefs number eight Luke Jacobson showed his class as he scored an outstanding try in his side’s 31-21 victory over the Brumbies in their Super Rugby Pacific encounter in Canberra on Saturday.
The match was still in its early stages when the Chiefs were awarded a scrum on the Brumbies’ 10-metre line.
Although the Chiefs‘ forwards were put under pressure at the set-piece, Jacobson gathered the ball before breaking away around the blindside.
He was soon inside the home side’s 22, where Ryan Lonergan and Andy Muirhead closed in on him, but he sold them a superb dummy before racing away to score the game’s opening try in the left-hand corner.

Damian McKenzie slotted the conversion, but the Brumbies struck back when Len Ikitau crossed for their first try in the 12th minute and with Noah Lolesio adding the extras, the match was deadlocked at 7-7.
The visitors were back in front when McKenzie slotted a penalty in the 23rd minute, and they extended their lead courtesy of a converted Josh Ioane try 10 minutes later, which meant they were up 17-7 at half-time.

The Chiefs continued to dominate after the break, and in the 56th minute Cortez Ratima dotted down after intercepting a wayward pass from Connal McInerney, before Shaun Stevenson crossed for their fourth try on the hour-mark.
McKenzie converted both five-pointers, which meant the Chiefs had their tails up with the score 31-7 in their favour.
They took their foot off the pedal during the game’s closing stages while the Brumbies launched a late fight back. The home side’s efforts were rewarded with late tries from Corey Toole and Pete Samu, but their opponents held on for the win.
The victory means the Chiefs have secured top spot on the Super Rugby Pacific table, while the Brumbies are in fourth place ahead of next weekend’s final round of the league phase of the competition.
