Tottenham close to an agreement with PSG for Serge Aurier

Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur were last night thrashing out the final details of a fee agreement with PSG for the transfer of Ivorian full-back Serge Aurier worth more than €25m, according to L’Équipe.

Aurier has already agreed personal terms with Tottenham, he did so about 10 days ago on a five year contract.

Aurier is Mauricio Pochettino’s priority, with the manager having spoken at length with the player about a possible move.

The deal is subject to a resolution of Aurier’s legal situation; on the 26th September last year the 24-year-old was sentenced to two months in prison for attacking a police officer. A conviction that his team have appealed against.

His lawyer is currently working on an official document that stipulates the outcome of the appeal (which has already been decided but has not been made public) and the non-sentencing of the player to time in prison; but he has not yet obtained it. Several law firms are working on getting this document.

If produced, this document would go a long way to Aurier receiving a work permit; if Aurier does not get that work permit, the deal with Tottenham will be annulled.

In this situation, Inter Milan and Juventus both have agreements over personal terms with Aurier, but he wants the Premier League. Juve want to buy him and then loan him out until January because they do not have another non-EU spot left in their squad; Inter Milan want to do an exchange with PSG including João Mario.

Both potential deals, at the time of writing, have considerable pitfalls for PSG and Aurier.
