Speaking to SFR Sport, French central defender and Toulouse man Issa Diop confirmed that he was the subject of discussions with AS Monaco this summer and explained why he ended up turning the Ligue 1 champions down.

“It is true, there were discussions. They are the champions of France, they are a great French club. It is always flattering to attract outfits like that. It did not happen in the end. I am focused on Toulouse at the moment. I do not pay attention. I decided to stay because I still need to grow, to impose myself at my club. I said to myself that another year, at least, is not a bad thing, to go to the next level, to become a true pillar of this side and to have a great season with those aims.”
