Porto president Pinto Da Costa lifted the curtain on the club’s talks with PSG over the sale of Vitinha (22), who became the first signing of the Luis Campos era. 

In an interview accorded to Porto’s club website, and transcribed by Foot National, Da Costa said, “What I said when we spoke about Vitinha, is that we had an offer of €30m but we didn’t sell, against the opinions of some who thought it was a great coup.”

He continued, “I said I’d only sell for €40m (the player’s release clause), so long as we get the money immediately. The Vitinha sale was only closed at nine o’clock in the evening on the last day of June.”

Da Costa concluded by confirming a hard-line stance on further potential outgoings. “Whoever wants a Porto player now knows they have to pay the clause in cash.” 

As well as Vitinha, Porto have already sold Fábio Vieira (22) to Arsenal this summer, whilst Otávio (27) is also being linked with a move to Leeds United.
