Six Nations: England lose Henry Slade for Scotland Test due to hip injury

England have suffered another setback on the eve of the Six Nations after Henry Slade was ruled out of their clash with Scotland at Twickenham due to a hip injury.

The centre sustained the injury while on duty for Exeter Chiefs against Castres in the Champions Cup last weekend and has not recovered sufficiently to be considered for selection.

Jamie George ruled fit

Meanwhile, Saracens hooker Jamie George has been included in England head coach Steve Borthwick‘s squad for their Championship opener on Saturday, February 4.

Last week, experienced England forward Courtney Lawes also withdrew from the squad for the Calcutta Cup encounter after injuring his calf in Northampton Saints’ Champions Cup clash with La Rochelle.

Leicester Tigers flyer Anthony Watson has been recalled after proving his fitness following a long-term Achilles injury. Watson last played for England in 2021, and his return will offset the loss of Slade and Elliot Daly, who is sidelined for 12 weeks with a hamstring injury.

“This is a very important week for us as we prepare for our first game against Scotland,” said Borthwick.

“We know that Scotland are an excellent side with a great coaching team led by Gregor Townsend.

“They’re a settled squad who have been together a long time and have dominated this fixture in recent seasons.

“They will be coming to Twickenham full of confidence. We know we have a lot of work to do. The team trained very hard last week and are ready to go again this week.

“We can’t wait to run out at Twickenham again in front of our incredible supporters.”
