Texas wrestling legend and 7-time NWA Texas Heavyweight Champion Jose Lothario has passed away at 83-years-old, according to Bill Apter.

Lothario was born in Monterrey, Mexico in 1934 and started wrestling in the late 1950s, although his career really took off in the 70s working for Championship Wrestling from Florida, and later NWA Big Time Wrestling in Houston and San Antonio.

In the 90s he was perhaps best known as the man who trained one of the greatest wrestlers of all time, Shawn Michaels, appearing as an on-screen manager for his very first WWF World Championship win at WrestleMania XII.

Throughout his career, Lothario won numerous tag team championships within the NWA, partnering with the likes of Mil Mascaras, Rocky Johnson, Wahoo McDaniels, Dory Funk and many others. In the era of Brass Knuckle Champions, he was one of the true kings, winning 8 titles in Florida and Texas.
