After sixteen nights of intense competition, New Japan Pro Wrestling wrapped up its annual World Tag League tournament this weekend by crowning a new pair of winners.

In the tournament finals on Sunday, Los Ingobernables de Japon superstars EVIL and SANADA defeated the current reigning IWGP Tag Team Champions Tama Tonga and Tanga Loa from Bullet Club to win the coveted trophies for the second year in a row.

As has become tradition, it is likely (although not yet confirmed) that the winners will receive a championship opportunity at Wrestle Kingdom 13. However, there may be a little snag in LIJ’s plans on that front…

During EVIL and SANADA’s show-closing promo Sunday afternoon in Japan, the two officially laid out a challenge to the Guerrillas of Destiny for the Tokyo Dome. Before they could finish, all four men were interrupted by none other than Matt and Nick Jackson, the Young Bucks.

While the Bucks did NOT compete in this year’s World Tag League, they claim that they are still the best tag team on the planet, and are due the championship rematch they never received after dropping the titles in the first place. It is not generally NJPW policy to award contractually obligated rematches, but in this case, it would appear that they are making an exception to make the story work.

As of this moment, the current plan is to run a triple threat tag team match at Wrestle Kingdom 13 for the IWGP Tag Team Champions between Bullet Club, The Elite and Los Ingobernables de Japon. We’ll let you know when those plans are officially announced.
