Mike Bennett, who for the last three years has been working under the name Mike Kanellis, has asked for his release from WWE.

“I came to WWE to work and that opportunity does not exist right now,” Bennett wrote on Twitter shortly before the start of Monday Night Raw. “I re-signed with the company back in June because I thought it was best for my family … but I quickly realized that bringing my work frustrations and misery home with me, is not good for my family and I no longer want my daughter to constantly see me come home defeated, sad and angry.”
Bennett also noted that he is only 34-years-old and feels he has “way too much left in the tank” to only be working “one day a week” at this point in his life.
The Massachusetts native-turned-Chicago transplant has been wrestling since 2002, first gaining national exposure by winning Ring of Honor’s very first Top Prospect Tournament in 2011 – a tournament that featured future stars like Adam Cole, Kyle O’Reilly, Michael Elgin and Jonathan Gresham.
Bennett is a former ROH World Tag Team Champion and IWGP Tag Team Champion alongside Matt Taven, a founding member of ROH faction The Kingdom, as well as a former Impact Wrestling X-Division Champion, and briefly a WWE 24/7 Champion.
