AEW announces Dynamite show opener; Rey Fenix & PAC tag match

AEW announced that the show opener for tonight’s live Dynamite will be Cody Rhodes and Red Velvet vs. Shaquille O’Neal and Jade Cargill.

The match was first put into motion last November when Cargill made her debut by interrupting Rhodes during a promo and throwing out O’Neal’s name as an example of someone who could use just one name. In subsequent months, the match came together with Velvet taking the spot that was earmarked for Brandi Rhodes who had to withdraw due to being pregnant.

It will be the AEW in-ring debut for both O’Neal and Cargill. The NBA Hall-of-Famer has been in the ring once as a surprise during the 2016 Andre The Giant Memorial battle royal at WrestleMania 32. An angle with new AEW signee Paul Wight was originally planned back then, but didn’t happen due to O’Neal’s schedule. Perhaps not coincedentally, Wight will also make his on-screen debut on Dynamite tonight.

Also announced for “The Crossroads” edition of the show was Death Triangle members Rey Fenix and PAC in tag team action and an appearance by Sting and TNT Champion Darby Allin.
