— On the latest Wrestling Observer Radio, it was reported that neither Drew McIntyre or Charlotte Flair were originally booked to win their respective men’s and women’s Royal Rumble matches. The initial plans had Roman Reigns winning the men’s Rumble and NXT star Shayna Baszler winning on the women’s side. At some point, this idea was scrapped but Reigns and Baszler ended up being used as the last people eliminated in those matches and this was said to be a decision that Paul Heyman pushed for and got, at least in terms of the McIntyre win.

— Based on the developments at the Royal Rumble, the top matches scheduled for WrestleMania in April are:

• Drew McIntyre challenging Brock Lesnar for the WWE Title
• Roman Reigns challenging The Fiend Bray Wyatt for the WWE Universal Title
• Edge vs. Randy Orton

— It was also speculated that Shayna Baszler is going to get a major spot on the WrestleMania card and could end up challenging for either the Raw or Smackdown women’s titles with Charlotte Flair – the winner of the Rumble – obviously getting the other title match.
