Matt Cappotelli, the co-winner of Tough Enough 3 along with John (Mundo/Morrison) Hennigan, announced that the brain tumor that put him in retirement at age 27 has returned and is more aggressive.
Cappotelli won the competition most notably remembered with Bob Holly shooting on him in the ring by over-aggressively stomping on Matt during a training match. Matt reported to OVW during the time Paul Heyman was running the show. Matt was nearly called up to the main roster more than once, but those plans were halted every time by and injury. Matt even won the OVW Title at one point before it was discovered he had a brain tumor after being sent to the hospital after a hard chair shot to the head was thought to give him a concussion in 2005. When the tumor was discovered he gave a heartfelt speech to the OVW crowd that WWE carried on their website and Jim Ross even mentioned it on an episode of RAW.
Cappotelli announced that doctors have told him the tumor had returned, was more aggressive than the one 10 years ago, and that part of the tumor was inoperable. He was having an MRI and said that he will have surgery on Thursday to “determine what we are dealing with”. Matt also said that the portion of the tumor that can be removed will be sent to hospital pathology to determine if it is cancerous.
We wish Matt all the best in his new struggle.
