Nearly six years after winning the title for the first time, Charlotte Flair is once again the NXT Women’s Champion.
Charlotte won the NXT Women’s title by defeating Rhea Ripley at WrestleMania 36 night two. After targeting Ripley’s left leg throughout the match, Charlotte put her in the Figure Four and then bridged into the Figure Eight to get the submission win.
Tonight’s title change aired on Charlotte’s 34th birthday.
Charlotte previously held the NXT Women’s Championship from May 2014 to February 2015. Shayna Baszler is the only other two-time Women’s Champion in NXT history.
Ripley had been champion since winning the title from Baszler on the December 18 episode of NXT. Charlotte got her title shot by winning this year’s women’s Royal Rumble match.
Charlotte’s first challenger will be decided by a number one contender’s ladder match that’s airing on this Wednesday’s NXT. Chelsea Green, Mia Yim, Tegan Nox, Io Shirai, Candice LeRae, and Dakota Kai are the wrestlers facing off in the ladder match. When the winner will be getting their title shot hasn’t been announced.
