Britain and the European Union have agreed a Brexit transition deal, paving the way for future UK-EU trade talks, after EU leaders formally backed the agreement at a summit on Brussels on Friday.

The rubber-stamping of the hard-won deal preceded a behind-closed doors discussion on Brexit by the heads of state and governments of the 27 remaining EU member states.
Jean-Claude Juncker, the president of the European Commission, said the guidelines were adopted by EU leaders in less than half a minute.
