FRIDAY’S NEWS UPDATE

Absolutely tragic the situation with Corey Hill, who passed away after complications from pneumonia.  With his size and wrestling, people thought if he got experience that he could have been a force at lightweight with experience, but he suffered that horrible broken leg.  I met him years ago and he had these big shoulders and was 6-foot-4, and that’s a legit height, with muscular arms, but his bones were so light that he was walking around without cutting at 162 pounds.
New Nevada guidelines on drug test failures.  When you talk a three year ban for steroids, you are in most cases ending a career on the first offense.  Second offense is another four years.  They are also looking at fining 50-75% of the purse on a first offense for steroids and PEDs.  It’s two years first offense for stimulants and they will test out of competition.  First offense for sedatives, muscle relaxers, sleep aids, anxiolytics, opiates and marijuana is 18 months and a 30-40 percent fine.  UFC usually follows NSAC regulations on their international shows.  I know that UFC was looking at a two year ban.  There is a political thing here in the sense this applies to boxing as well.  The UFC people were for much longer punishment for PEDs at least, while the boxing people were not as adamant as there was the belief that would put pressure on the commission to not follow the UFC’s guidelines.  Instead, they came out with even stronger punishment than UFC was asking for.  I do think 18 months for a first marijuana positive is insane, but this is as hard line on steroids as you can be.    
For this weekend, we won’t be doing a show tonight, but we are planning an early Saturday show covering tonight’s ROH and tomorrow’s UFC show, plus a Sunday show after Payback.
The Global Force Wrestling web site has a roster page and names that weren’t in this week’s Observer that are on the page are Takaaki Watanabe, Shelton Benjamin, Scott Hall (who is doing house shows 6/20 and 6/21), Jimmy Rave, Jamin Olivencia and the name that Tyrus is using is George T. Murdoch.  And now, he is not the son of Dick Murdoch.
No word at this point regarding the formerly almost live 6/26 Impact show on a Friday will be taped with the Impact move to Wednesday.  They could bring people in on 6/24, or they could air the 5/22 show that was taped but not scheduled to Air on Destination America and then move everything back one week.  But that is a mess because all the PPV announcements except the main event were being saved for the “live” show.  But they could add them in post-production.  Given date references on almost every show and other things I’m aware of, this move decision had to have been made within the last three days.  Impact won’t be going head-to-head with Lucha Underground’s first show because Impact starts at 9 p.m. and Lucha Underground is at 8 p.m.
In Canada, The Fight Network is following suit and Impact will move to Wednesday at 9 p.m., meaning that the first hour of Impact in Canada goes against the second hour of Smackdown.   
WWE Studios closed a $35 million credit line with Bank of America Merrill Lynch.  The money will be used to allow WWE Studios more aggressively bid for movies and well as produce movies in conjunction with other studios.  The company is basing itself around mid-budget movies like The Call and Oclus.  They announced a new movie called Incarnate, starring Mark Henry, and a second Scooby Doo WrestleMania mystery starring Hulk Hogan.
New Japan World will be airing every show of the Best of the Super Juniors tournament.  The 5/22, 5/30, 6/5 and finals on 6/7 will all be live.  The other shows, which are on 5/23, 5/25, 5/26, 5/27, 5/29, 5/13, 6/2/ 6/3 and 6/4 will all be up sometime one day later.
Tonight’s NXT show in Philadelphia has Kevin Owens vs. Finn Balor for the NXT title plus a four-way with Sasha Banks vs. Charlotte vs. Becky Lynch vs. Bayley.  Baron Corbin will also face an ECW original.  Rumor has it being Bully Ray.  They are trying to position NXT like ECW for the Philadelphia market to the point of bringing in Joey Styles for the shows and Mick Foley was brought in last night.
Vince McMahon did an interview with the Chicago Tribune after being inducted into the Boys & Girls Club Hall of Fame there and when asked about WrestleMania in Chicago, said it wasn’t out of the running, noting they people can put on jackets if it’s cold. 
Premier Boxing announced Adrian Broner vs. Shawn Porter as the main event for an NBC Prime Time show on 6/20 from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in La Vegas.  The other fight will be Errol Spence Jr. vs. Roberto Garcia.
Benson Henderson pulled out of his fight against Michael Johnson that was originally to headline the 7/12 UFC show. 
A WWE house show on 7/11 in Nashville has a pre-sale going in with the code NASHVILLE.  
WWE stock was down two cents per share today to $13.67
The Pro Wrestling Hall of Fame has its induction ceremony in Amsterdam, NY (right near Albany, where NXT ha a show).  The inductees are Joe Malciewicz, an early century wrestler and longtime San Francisco promoter; Great Gama; Pedro Morales, Whipper Billy Watson, Curt Hennig, Rick Martel, Vivian Vachon, The Freebirds, Jim Crockett Sr. and Jumbo Tsuruta.  Those attending include Michael Hayes, Riki Martel, Wendi Richter, Brian Blair, Larry Hennig, Lanny Poffo, Ray Licameli (second Doink), Ann Casey, Joyce Grable, Domenic DeNucci, The Destroyer Dick Beyer, JJ Dillon, Paul Vachon, Bugsy McGraw, Davey O’Hannon, and Johnny Mantell.
