BURNSVILLE, Minn. – Four Maverick wrestlers earned All-NSIC honors while the brackets for the NCAA Championships have been posted for the three who qualified for nationals.
#2 Cody Quinn (Sr., 165 lbs.) and #8 Alphonso Vruno (Jr., 141 lbs.) received All-NSIC First Team honors, while #4 Da’Wayne Robertson (Jr., 125 lbs.) and Adam Cooling (So., 157 lbs.) earned All-NSIC Second Team honors.
Seventeen members from the NSIC qualified for nationals including Quinn, Robertson, and Vruno from MSU.
Robertson’s first opponent of the tournament is Ronzel Darling (Wis. Parkside) who placed third at his regional. Darling is a junior from Chicago, Ill. All eight ranked wrestlers at the 125 lbs. weight class are in the tournament.
Vruno will face off against #2 Maurice Miller (Notre Dame (Ohio)). Miller is from Canton, Ohio and won his regional as a redshirt senior. The eight ranked wrestlers all advanced to nationals.
Quinn will take on Tyler Reinhart (Pittsburgh-Johnstown) to start off his tournament. Reinhart, who placed fourth at his region, is a redshirt freshman from Greensburg, Pa. All the ranked wrestlers are alive in the 165 lbs. weight class.
The NCAA Division II National Championships start on Saturday, March 14, at 10 a.m. at Chaifetz Arena in St. Louis, Mo.
