Four Dragon Wrestlers Earn All-Academic Team Honors from DII Wrestling Coaches Association

MOORHEAD, Minn. – Four members of the Minnesota State University Moorhead wrestling team have been named to the 2014-15 Division II All-Academic Wrestling team, it has been announced. Sophomore Garret Hoffner earned first-team honors while sophomore Shane Novak was named to the second team.

Seniors Chris Bascon and Shawn Porter were named honorable mention.

The 2014-2015 Division II All-Academic Wrestling Team consists of 237 student-athletes from 46 universities and colleges. Thirty-six members were named to the first team, 55 members to the second team, and 143 were named as honorable mention. In order for a student-athlete to be nominated to the Division II All-Academic Team, he needed to have a minimum 3.00 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale. He must also be in at least his second full year at his school, be a varsity member on his team or a key reserve, demonstrate a degree of skill and have a minimum of two letters of recommendation (academic advisor and coach) submitted on his behalf.

Hoffner, who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.95 and is majoring in business administration, earned the Division II All-Academic first-team honors for the first time in his career. The sophomore finished the season at 17-8 at 157 pounds.

Novak has a GPA of 3.83 and is majoring in biology and was named to the All-Academic Second Team. He finished the season 14-8 at 125 pounds.

Bascon has a GPA of 3.33 and is majoring in exercise science, while Porter is a senior with a GPA of .301 majoring in political science.
