Arredondo loses in quarterfinals at NCAA Championship

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Southwest Minnesota State University’s Cortez Arredondo lost a 7-1 decision to Cody Law from Pitt.-Johnstown at 157 pounds in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division II Championships on Friday night.

The championship is being held at US Cellular Center and hosted by Upper Iowa University.

Arredondo, ranked No. 9 in the country, is now 21-11 on the season. Law, the top-ranked wrestler in the country, is now 23-1 on the season.

Arredondo opened the championship Friday morning with an 8-3 in over 11th ranked Matt Malcolm (17-6) from Nebraska-Kearney.

Arredondo, making his first appearance at the championships, returns to the mat later tonight in the consolation round and will face either Tyler Mies from Newman (Kan.) or Eric Lewandowski from Gannon (Pa.).
