Last week was full of tie breaks. Long and exciting games were a big part of 8th round. First of all, AZS Olsztyn beat Trefl Gdansk. It was a quite unexpected result, as Olsztyn lost their last three games 0:3.
On the other hand, Trefl kept in mind their victory over Politechnika Warszawa. It was probably on of the longest games in the history of PlusLiga, because the second set was played until 38th point of Trefl Gdansk. The hosts were already leading 2:1, but AZS Olsztyn did not give up and strongly fought they way through the rest of that night to tie break. In this last part they earned two point to the general ranking. It was a great game of two players of AZS – Wojciech Ferens (31 points) and Bartosz Krzysiek (27 points) and one from Trefl (Mateusz Mika, who scored 20 points).
Lotos Trefl Gdansk – Indykpol AZS Olsztyn 2:3 (19:25, 38:36, 27:25, 21:25, 8:15)
MVP: Wojciech Ferens
Many people have been expecting a real war in this next meeting. AZS Warszawa, who lately has been doing surprisingly well was facing Asseco Resovia, who had some problems to resolve. However, the game was quick – Polish champions showed their power and killed AZS with the strong wings. In addition, three players are about to join Resovia after recovering from injuries – Olieg Achrem, Piotr Nowakowski and Grzegorz Kosok are going to be a huge support, so it seems like Resovia said goodbye to the crisis they were dealing for the last couple of weeks.
Jakub Bednaruk, head coach of Warszawa said: “There is no shame in losing with the Polish champions. Our goals are different than Resovia’s and it was actually our first match that poor in this season”.
Asseco Resovia Rzeszow – AZS Politechnika Warszawa 3:0 (25:17, 25:19, 25:16)
MVP: Nikola Kovacevic
Also Skra Belchatow managed to keep three points at home. However, Effector Kilce was not so easy to beat. They even won the third part 25:20 and carried on with a good game during the set 4, but Skra knew how to maintain their strength. Jacek Nawrocki did some changes in squad. Wytze Kooistra was playing in opposite, instead of Atanasijevic and Michal Bakiewicz replaced Michal Winiarski, but they both had to come back to lead this game to the “happy end”. Despite of failure, head coach Dariusz Daszkiewicz was satisfied with the quality of the game and the attitude of his team. After this weekend, Skra is on the second position in ranking.
PGE Skra Belchatow – Effector Kielce 3:1 (25:19, 25:22, 20:25, 25:22)
MVP: Daniel Plinski
When Resovia and Skra are coming back to their good shape, Zaksa Kedzierzyn-Kozle is losing it. Bad luck seemed to live in this team, as once again Zaksa has to deal with major health issues. Lukasz Wisniewski, Piotr Gacek, Felipe Fonteles and Pawel Zagumny – those players had to be replaced. AZS Czestochowa knew how to make use of this situation. They earned one point and Zaksa beat their rival in tie break.
Zaksa Kedzierzyn-Kozle – Wkret-met AZS Czestochowa 3:2 (25:16, 21:25, 25:23, 19:25, 15:13)
MVP: Dominik Witczak
The game between Jastrzebski Wegiel and Delecta Bydgoszcz was probably one of the best volleyball performance in this season. Both teams were giving their best – both Jastrzebie and Delecta divided their attack rather equally. The game was great to watch thanks to many long actions and exciting parts – the second set finished with 31:29 (!) for Delecta. Jastrzebski Wegiel was humiliated during the fourth set, but they led to the full recovery in tie break, winning this fantastic game.
Jastrzebski Wegiel Delecta Bydgoszcz 3:2 (25:21, 29:31, 25:23, 14:25, 15:9)
