SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — The red-hot Augustana wrestling team hits the road for an NSIC dual for the first time this weekend. The Vikings will take on the Dragons of MSU Moorhead Saturday at 3 p.m. in Moorhead, Minnesota.
The Vikings were selected to finish fourth in the 2019-20 NSIC Wrestling Preseason Poll, while the Dragons were selected to finish ninth. Currently, both squads are ranked in the top-10 in the Super Region 5 standings, with Augustana in third with 54 votes and MSU Moorhead in tenth with 13 votes. Saturday’s match will be the first road dual against a Division II opponent for the Vikings and the second of a four-dual home stretch for the Dragons.
The Dragons
MSU Moorhead currently holds an 0-3 record with losses to Northern State and UW-Parkside on the road and a home loss to Southwest Minnesota State last Saturday. The Dragons will wrestle on back-to-back days this week as they take on the Beavers of Minot State on Friday, before Augustana’s visit to Moorhead on Saturday.
The Vikings
Augustana is currently riding a four-dual win streak that includes an undefeated home record and three-consecutive victories over nationally-ranked Division II opponents. The Vikings two losses have both come to Division I schools.
Junior Ben Kelvington and sophomore Daniel Bishop are currently 4-0 during the Viking’s win streak. Three of Kelvington’s four wins have been major decisions and Bishop logged one fall during the stretch. Redshirt freshman Hunter Burnett joins Kelvington and Bishop as the only Vikings to be undefeated during the win streak with a 3-0 record.
