Mustang’s Ryan receives preliminary round draw

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The NCAA Division II wrestling committee has announced the brackets for the 2020 NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships in Sioux Falls, S.D. The two-day championship will be held on March 14-15 at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center.

Southwest Minnesota State University’s 197-pounder, Jackson Ryan, will compete in the preliminary round facing Wade French (23-3) from Chadron State.

Ryan, a native of Inver Grove Heights, Minn., went 3-1 last weekend at the NCAA Super Regional V in his first appearance. Ryan, who earned a medical red-shirt last season after sustaining an injury to his knee.

Ryan enters the championship with a record of 22-7 and led SMSU with wins by decisions with 10 and recorded six wins by fall.

The NCAA championships will take place on Friday beginning with Session I at 11 a.m., followed by Session II at 5 p.m. The championship resumes on Saturday with Session III at 10 a.m., with the finals starting at 7 p.m.
This double-elimination tournament will bring student-athletes from DII colleges and universities to Sioux Falls in order to compete in ten weight classes. The Championship will determine the Division II All-America team with the top eight finishers in each weight class qualifying for All-America status.

Fans planning to attend the championships should be aware that the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center has a clear bag policy for all events. Opaque bags larger than 4.5″ x 6.5″ will not be permitted into the venue. Guests may enter the building with a clear one (1) gallon zipper-lock type bag or a clear stadium bag that is no larger than 12″ x 12″ x 6″. All bags are subject to search. Parking is free.
