2007 NER Pub Series X Men’s Standings After 3 of 6 Races

There is a gathering wind in the sails of the Cape’s Joe Navas, enough that after winning both the Corrib and Brew Run he mused, “Hmm, this means I might have to travel.” We’ll see, but Navas is certainly a dark horse after missing Doyle’s but now jumping from 12th to 4th in the Series standings.

Wily veteran Terry McNatt stayed in the chase pack at the Brew Run and emerged unscathed in the top spot with a 15-point lead over the enigmatic Lorin Obler of Brighton (Hey, Lorin might be a rocket scientist and widely published, we just haven’t met him yet). We have encountered Mr. Quarterdeck Mike Norton (on numerous occasions) and this clean-cut spokesperson for a comfortable chair and a good pour is now solidly in third, 8-points behind Lorin while Navas circles like a Great White in the depths below.

Publicans Frank Nelson and Mr. Pub Series himself Paul Hammond are tied for 5th with HFC’s Lee Danforth and Chris Smith not far behind.

Thirsty Irish Runner point man Dave Wessman is solid as top Senior while Dave Cobb and Iron Joe Drugan continued their Rock ’em Sock ’em, Katie Bar the Door, Pier Six slobberknocker of a Veteran’s tussle. Cobb turned the Corrib Pub table on Drugan this time out, earning a scant 1-point lead after three races in the Veterans division.

In other noteworthy news, true-blue Publican Bob Hillman has climbed past Don Murray in the 70-79 division with Marshfield RR teammate Tom Wright nipping at no-show Murray’s heels. Also, a tip of the hat to Jimmy Fallon, who’s managed to stay healthy and crack both the Overall and Masters standings.

Next Pub Series run is on September 16, at the Shipyard Brewery in lovely Portland, Me., Portland Trail to Ale 10K.
