Oh yes, it is a strong elixir being fermented in Pub Series XIII as we’ve reached the midway point with Doyle’s, Evan’s Run and the Corrib in the rearview mirror.
As often happens after the third race, the “Miss two, you’re through” rule kicks in along with true-blue NER subscribers continuing on while non-practioners fall by the wayside.
And, of course, there is human error, an ever-present commodity in the tabulations and why we employ an inter-active approach with participants.
To that end, we applaud the chivalrous action of Jamaica Plain’s Ryan Flynn on behalf of his fiancee, Jennifer Gillingham. While Ryan was due 10 points for his 20:19 scamper at Evan’s Run, Jennifer placed 11th overall among women in 21:34 and that’s worth 40 points to go along with the 9 earned at the Corrib. This puts Jennifer in the 14th position overall.
Another big shake-up in the women’s standings comes from the only top-50 participant not on the NER roster. Boston’s Sue McLeod was in 10th position after doing 2 races with 90 points. Her vacated position has now been filled by Sue McNatt with everyone else moving up one.
On the men’s side, Dave Richardson with 24 points in 43rd position has evaporated from the standings and that (we believe) is it until the Series resumes Sept. 12 down the Cape at the Mighty Meehan 5K in W. Dennis, followed a week later by the Portland Trail “Trail to Ale” 10K in Portland, ME and culminating with the Grand Finale at Paddy’s Shillelagh Shuffle 3M in Newton, MA on Oct. 17.
Enjoy the summer, we’ll see you down the road!
