WEST PALM BEACH, FL — Singer Chris Brown was arrested by Florida police late Thursday after a concert in West Palm Beach. The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the 29-year-old singer was picked up on a warrant for felony battery. The warrant stemmed from an April 2017 incident at a Tampa nightclub in which Brown allegedly punched photographer Bennie Louis Vines.
The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office told Patch that Brown was booked into the Palm Beach County Jail at 11 p.m. Thursday. He paid a $2,000 bond and was released. The arrest came after Brown played a concert at Coral Sky Amphitheatre, a 20,000-seat open-air music venue in West Palm Beach.

Though this isn’t Brown’s first run in with the law, the Grammy Award-winning vocalist has become one of America’s most popular R&B artists with more than 10 top 10 hits on the Billboard Hot 100, including “Kiss Kiss,” “Look at Me Now” and “Loyal.”
With respect to the Hillsborough County warrant, Vines told Tampa Police that he had been hired to take photographs at an event at Club Aja in the Channelside area of downtown Tampa when he was assaulted by the artist. The Tampa police warrant was issued through the State Attorney’s Office in Hillsborough County.
“Vines told police that Chris Brown was sitting near him and that Brown motioned to Vines to move away,” according to Tampa police. “Vines told police he moved away and attempted to tell Brown that he was hired to take pictures of the crowd. Vines and witnesses said Brown then approached Vines, assumed a fighting stance, and punched Vines’ upper lip. Brown and his entourage then left the nightclub.”
Tampa Police investigated and sent the case to the State Attorney’s Office. A
warrant was issued on August 11, 2017.
In 2009, the entertainer pleaded guilty to felony assault for beating up then-girlfriend Rihanna. In 2016, he was arrested on a charge of assault with a deadly weapon.
Brown is touring North America from June through August and was headed to Tampa on Friday at the MidFlorida Credit Union Amphitheatre at the Florida State Fair Grounds. John King, a spokesman for the venue, told Patch that Friday’s 7 p.m. performance would go on as planned.
Patch editor D’Ann Lawrence White in Tampa and the Associated Press contributed to this report.
