SNOWMASS VILLAGE, CO — “Well, sometimes you’re the hammer and sometimes you’re the nail!” quipped Lance Armstrong while sharing a photo of his busted-up face from a bike accident in eastern central Colorado near Aspen.

Armstrong was trail-riding on the Tom Blake Trail Wednesday morning when it happened. In his tumble, he “took quite a blow to the noggin’,” he said, so he went to get checked at the Aspen Valley Hospital.

“For the 46 years prior to today, I completely would have blown off getting checked,” he wrote on his Instagram. But, these days, he’s a bit wiser. “Not now,” he said.

Armstrong’s Strava, a social media page for cyclists, runners and swimmers, says he competed his 23.62-mile ride in 2 hours and 33 minutes, climbing 3,900 feet. He won King of the Mountain titles on three sections of the race after beating the fastest times.

In 2012, Armstrong was stripped of his seven Tour de France titles and banned from Olympic sports for life for blood doping.
