Bret Hart Promo
Cena changes things up now and begins his U.S. Open Challenge. He talks about Payback and now he says it’s time to talk about tonight. He issues his open challenge.
As Cena waits to find out who is going to accept his challenge, Bret Hart’s theme hits. You think it’s going to be someone dressed up like Hart in Montreal, but nope, out comes the real deal.
The WWE Hall Of Fame legend himself, Bret “The Hitman” Hart makes his way to the ring to a huge ovation. He’s in the ring with a mic now as Cena sits in the corner in the background, letting Hart have the spotlight. Hart says he’s here for one reason. He’s here to introduce a great wrestler. Before he can continue, Heath Slater’s theme interrupts him.
U.S. Open Challenge
– John Cena (c) vs. Sami Zayn
Slater comes out telling Hart and Cena to wait a minute. He says he’s sick of getting attacked, and just as he does, Hart blasts him with a mic. He says as he was saying, he’s here to introduce a great wrestler.
With that said, Hart introduces former NXT Champion Sami Zayn. The crowd goes nuts as Zayn’s theme plays and he makes his way to the ring. Cena takes his shirt off and gets ready for battle. The U.S. title is on the line next. We head to commercial.
We return from commercial and the bell rings to make this one official. The fans go ballistic with “Ole! Ole! Ole!” chants as Zayn works over Cena early on. Cena takes control now and holds Zayn in a headlock on the ground. The fans rally behind Zayn as he makes his way back to his feet.
Cena suplexes Zayn and cuts him off, remaining in control of the offense here with the main roster rookie. The doctor has to check on Zayn after the suplex. The announcers are talking like it’s his shoulder. The match is literally on pause as the doctors talk to him in the corner and Cena waits.
Finally, the doctor is done talking to him and Zayn is ready to go back to battle, almost like a UFC fight where you stop the action to check on a cut. Cena makes sure Zayn is ready and now here we go, the action continues.
Cena dominates the action for a while, as we see Rusev and Lana watching on from backstage. Zayn catches Cena in one of his finishing submission moves but Cena survives. Zayn hits a wicked DDT move on Cena landing all the way on the floor.
Zayn takes a while to get Cena back in the ring. As soon as they get in the ring, Cena surprises Zayn by popping up with an Attitude Adjustment. He immediately covers Zayn and Zayn somehow kicks out. Cena yells and complains to the referee, as he thought it should have been a three count.
Since it wasn’t a three count, the match continues. Zayn is firing up now and is starting to make a comeback. He hits a Blue Thunderbomb on Cena for a close nearfall. He continues to sell his shoulder as replays are shown of the Blue Thunderbomb nearfall. The fans, meanwhile, we erupting with “This Is Awesome” chants.
Zayn, with one arm, and Cena, start trading shots. Cena throws a kick instead of a punch, so the fans boo. Cena starts slugging Zayn now but Zayn stops and his face turns mean. He runs at Cena but Cena catches him with a springboard stunner into an A.A. 1-2-3. Cena wins.
Winner and STILL WWE U.S. Champion: John Cena
After The Match
After the match, Cena made facial expressions like he was shocked how good Zayn was. He raises Zayn’s hand and leaves the ring to him. He claps and walks backwards as Zayn plays to the crowd, who are going nuts for him. We head to another break.
