Jerry Lawler Announces Return of Memphis Wrestling, Ellsworth/NWA

Jerry “The King” Lawler is perhaps best known today for being a long-running commentator on WWE programming. Lawler served as an announcer for several years in the company, including during the entire length of the ‘Attitude Era’ and most of the years that followed. In fact, even though he was taken off of the regular commentary team back in 2016, Lawler has been brought back by the company to serve as an announcer during huge events such as Raw’s 25th anniversary show and the Royal Rumble pay-per-view. However, newer fans may not been entirely aware of Jerry “The King” Lawler’s days competing as a wrestler down in Memphis, Tennessee.
Lawler became so successful when he worked in the city that he was eventually given the nickname “The King of Memphis.” Several years later, fans of Lawler’s days in Memphis now have a reason to be excited all over again. During a recent appearance on the Cerrito Live podcast Lawler confirmed that pro wrestling will be returning to the city very soon. The new wrestling program will air locally in the area beginning in April, but no exact date of release was provided. However, they will air on Saturday morning at 11am once they do finally premiere. It sounds like Lawler will be working to resurrect a bit of old school southern “rasslin’” back in the city of Memphis later on this year.
James Ellsworth managed to earn himself a WWE contract back in 2016, and although he was released from the company last year, he has not let that get him down. Instead, he has continued to wrestle on the independent circuit. Recently, an upcoming match between himself and former WWE Superstar Emma drew some attention, but it looks like his biggest challenge yet will be taking place in the National Wrestling Alliance later this year. After NWA Champion Nick Aldis threw out on open challenge to any former world champion or anyone who has defeated a world champion before, Ellsworth (who defeated AJ Styles while he was champion in 2016) accepted the match. Who will be victorious in the championship match? It looks like we will all just have to wait and see.

Let’s see what I can get into today..
